- Ted Shuttle -

Ted shuttle is the centre character out of all The Bears. He is not the eldest bear or the youngest. Age wise he is probably second or third eldest. He is the main character that his family of bears look up to. He has yellow and white fluffy fur, which looks a little worn. He has dark beaded eyes. Paws that have unusual claw markings. He is gradually collecting different outfits. He has a " jean outfit" which he wore in the first book. He has also been pictured in a sailors outfit.

 

 Ted for a living in his earlier life caught snakes and sold them to animal collectors and zoos. He looks after his family of bears and bearlets and they feed on jars of honey, different strengths to age and build. Ted is retired from catching the snakes now as its quite a strenuous job. Nowadays he helps Alf his brother with the gardening around his mansion. 

 

Ted grows roses and has many of them. His favourite rose is a deep shade of pink called "Giddy". He sells them to garden centre through the country. Ted once pricked his paw on a rose thorn and had to go to hospital to be seen to. The wound bled a lot and he had to be seen straight away in a cubicle at the hospital. The reason it bled a lot was because it still had the thorn in the wound but he is over that now and his paw has healed up very nicely. Teds rose business is called "Tedder rose".Ted has done some experimenting with his roses in the laboratory and has produced a purple one which was the favourite colour of one of his forefathers. 

 

Teds rose business run by him, Alf and, Josh runs very successfully. To help with the running of his business he went on a horticultural course at a nearby college. Ted invented a device to wrap plants at a local plant business in a nearby village and gets royalties for this.  

 

Ted has a part time pursuit of sailing and takes his sailing boat out onto the water of a nearby lake. Some times he has to get the boat tacking, zig zagging to get the wind in the sails. From time to time he takes family with him such as Beatrice, Alf and Josh but not Gladys his mum who doesn't go because she gets sea sick. Once when all the family were there they had corned beef sandwiches and Josh broke one of his teeth on a piece of bone in the meat and teased Beatrice from that day hence. On one time whilst sailing the wind dropped and the boat stopped moving and they all wanted to spend a penny and ended up going over the side of the boat to relieve themselves. They often stop for fish and chips at a bear café for battered salmon and chips , and always leave the waitress a tip. In the Spring or Summer Ted takes children from a local school on his boat and shows them how to sail and he gets three cheers from the youngsters.
